Kid Campaigner. Idol!

A few days ago, I caught a news segment on BBC featuring how a little girl from Scotland, Martha Payne, was able to gather enough donations online, through her blog, to fund several kitchens in Malawi to provide breakfast for hundreds of schoolchildren.

This is Martha showing the front page of her blog - neverseconds - which started it all.

And this is Martha in Malawi, together with some of the school kids who benefited from her campaign.

What an inspiring person, Martha is. And at such a young age! She really makes me want to do something similar for our own kababayans.

Great Trailer! Kelan kaya showing? :-)

This spoof really blew me away! Hurray for having lots of "free time" on our hands! Only good things can come (pun intended) out of it! :-)

I am what I eat. Yahoo!

Na-inspire lang ako ng isang recent blogpost ni Sir Taroogs entitled "You are what you watch talaga!" So true... naka-relate talaga ako.

Actually, I hear this a lot from my mom, dad, siblings, friends and random classmates. Apparently, they also believe in this shit [and I mean that in a good way :-)].

But, unlike Sir Taroogs, I'm not a big fan of movies and TV (not even DVDs), although I download some like many other "normal" peeps.

So I looked at what I love to eat, instead. Surely these are as definitive of my personality as the other choices I make in my everyday life?

Tama? TAMA! :-)

So what do I love to eat, and what does it say about me? The answer to the first question I can provide. Answering the latter, I leave up to God (or you. Whoever thinks deems to answer it first).

Pinoy Henyo nga ba talaga?

I really like Sen. Mirian Defensor-Santiago! Her passion and bombast (not to mention her timely eruptions on the podium and her "pick-up lines") have made me a lifetime fan.

Which is why I was worried when I first saw this caption somewhere online: "Why Sen. Tito Sotto and Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago can never be team mates in Pinoy Henyo."

At bakit hindi pwede?! That was my initial reaction. Matalino si Sen. Miriam! Malamang genius pa nga! Why can't she be on Pinoy Henyo?!

And then I saw the image that came with the caption...

Honga naman. It'll never work talaga. Hihihihihi :-)

Huli man daw... pagkagaling-galing pa din!

I may already be crossing the invisible line between really, truly caring and being an insensitive epal, but I must say my piece about this ongoing, online (pardon the term) "deathwatch" people have going for Dolphy.

People... Anubayaaaan?! Yes, he's an icon both on and off-reel and truly deserving of our prayers and concern, pero tantanan naman natin ng kaunti. It's like we're expecting the Quizon Family to bare their fears and hopes on live TV, every 30 minutes, for our entertainment.

Let's give them the dignity due them and get our kicks elsewhere.

Dolphy is a great man. Don't let our unbridled adulation diminish him, his family, or ourselves in the end.

Prayers and good vibes will suffice.

on appreciating the value of education...

For a country like the Philippines where basic education is supposedly "free" but where, in reality, a distressing number of children still do not get to finish basic schooling, education -- good education, more so -- remains a relatively elusive goal for so many young Filipinos.

This is as heartbreaking as it is worrying. After all, today's children are tomorrow's leaders, right? So, what kind of leaders can we expect to come out from an inadequate, inconsistent and patently un-creative education system such as what we have today?

Will the government's "K-12" proposal solve this issue? Your guess is as good as mine. Will it take better training for our teachers? Definitely. Do we need more classrooms? Of course.

But what correct mix of "solutions" must we implement? I don't know. Honestly.

But what I do know is this. A lot depends on how the students themselves value their education -- as a tool for learning, as a catalyst for development, as a primer for change.

How can we accurately gauge that valuing? Some swear by technical methods (surveys, interviews, questionnaires, etc.) when determining numeric equivalents for "valuing."

Me? Simple lang yan... look at the students themselves. How do they act vis-a-vis school? Do they brave floods and rains just to go to school, or do they choose to skip classes at the merest hint of rain? Do they trek miles over hills and across rivers just to attend classes, or would they rather hang-out at the mall?

Simplistic and idealistic, I know. But extremely accurate, IMHO.

FREE CONCERT at Kyusi! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

What wonderful news! A free concert for a cause! All we need to bring are donations (in cash or in kind) to be given to the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities.

I am so going! And I'm bringing my Family... my Posse... and my Boo.

Tara!

Plus, cute pa ng name ng event :-)

Biking Quezon City (coming soon!)

I've been eyeing the extensive Bike Lanes in Quezon City -- especially the one going around and inside the QC Memorial Circle and the one criss-crossing the UP-Diliman Campus -- for several months already and have finally acted on the urge... nay, the need, that had been welling-up inside me all those months: I've bought me a rockin Mountain Bike! Sweet!

Just you wait, kyusi bike lanes… once I buy the requisite safety gear (and kikay bike-accoutrements, shemps!), I’m gonna hit the ground running… erm, spinning pala.

Tara! Bike Tayo! J
